Kik Messenger Reverse Engineering & Protocol Analysis
For this project, I successfully reverse-engineered the Kik Messenger Android application, decompiling its Dalvik bytecode and analyzing its non-public API.

Analyzing complex messaging platforms requires deep inspection of mobile client binaries, network protocols, and client-server handshakes. Operating as GoodGuySoft, I performed reverse engineering on the Kik Messenger Android application—decompiling its Dalvik bytecode and analyzing its native C++ shared libraries to map its private API structures and build a multi-threaded desktop client in C++.
Core Functionality & Key Capabilities
- Android Bytecode & Native Library Decompilation: Analyzed Dalvik bytecode alongside native C++ shared libraries (`.so`) to reconstruct private request formatting, session handling, and authentication protocols.
- Private API Protocol Mapping: Documented internal endpoint parameters, messaging payload formats, user directory search requests, and session handshake structures.
- Cross-Platform C++ Desktop Client: Engineered a high-performance, command-line application supporting account registration workflows, user directory search, and message transmission.
- High-Concurrency Async Networking: Implemented asynchronous event handling and multi-threaded proxy pool rotation to ensure smooth concurrent operations on Linux and Windows.
Technology Stack & Architecture
- Reverse Engineering & Analysis: JADX / JEB (Dalvik bytecode decompilation), IDA Pro (native C/C++ library disassembly), and Wireshark protocol inspection.
- Core & Runtime: C++ (cross-platform desktop application compiled for Windows and Linux environments).
- Networking & Async I/O:
boost::asio(asynchronous multi-threaded execution engine) andlibcurl(HTTP/HTTPS client communications). - Utilities & Integrations: Dynamic SOCKS5/HTTP proxy management, verification handlers, and custom data serialization routines.
